How Annuvell category and location pages work
Explore how category, town, and region pages display your business, what controls where you show up, and how editorial guides link into key points in the directory.
A local-business directory is only useful if people can actually find the businesses they need. Annuvell Local is organised so that customers can search by service, browse nearby towns, or compare businesses side by side. For business owners, understanding how your listing appears in different sections helps you reach the right audience and keep your information accurate throughout the site.
The main page types and how they connect
Annuvell Local is built around a set of key page types, each generated from real business data and designed to help visitors find what they need efficiently. Here is how these pages fit together:
- Home page: Shows the three latest editorial guides and helps visitors start a search or browse by category or location.
- Categories directory: Lists all service categories available, so customers can jump straight to the kind of business they need. You can see this at /categories.
- Category pages: Each one displays all businesses in that category across the UK, with up to three related editorial guides to help customers make informed choices. Categories are generated from the actual listings present.
- Category-in-town pages: These appear only where Annuvell Local has listings for a specific category in a particular town. For example, if there are plumbers in York, there will be a page for "Plumbers in York".
- Locations directory: Accessible via /locations, this lists all towns and regions covered, helping customers browse by area.
- Town pages: Each town page groups businesses by category for that town and shows up to three guides relevant to the town itself.
- Region pages: These group together the towns in a particular region, showing which towns have listings.
- Business page: Every business has a dedicated page displaying its description, contact details (with verification status), services, photos, and more. This information is managed by the business owner or from public records.
- Search results: Customers can search by keyword or filter by location, and results can be ordered by distance from a postcode or current location.
- Compare tool: Lets visitors select two to four businesses and see key facts side by side, with each fact labelled by its verification source.
- Editorial guides: Found at /blog, these are practical articles linked into relevant category and location pages to help customers choose and compare businesses, or to help owners improve their listings.
Each page is dynamically generated from up-to-date listing data, so changes made by business owners (such as updating services or contact information) are reflected wherever the business appears.
What appears on each page and how it is shown
The information shown on any Annuvell Local page is drawn directly from business listings, customer searches, and editorial content.
- Category pages display all businesses in that category nationwide, a brief intro to the service, and up to three related guides. The list is based on businesses currently listed in that category.
- Category-in-town pages show only businesses in that category and town, generated only if there are listings for both. If a town has no businesses in a category, that page does not appear.
- Town pages group all businesses in the town by category, so customers can see what's available locally. Up to three guides for that town are displayed, which may cover choosing a business, local regulations, or tips for that area.
- Region pages simply group towns covered in that region. Clicking a town leads you to its page.
- Business pages include the description, photos, logo, hours, phone, email, address, website (if present), and a list of services. Contact details are checked: unreachable websites are flagged, and verified phone numbers are clearly marked.
- Search results are generated based on what the customer enters or where they are searching from. Results can be ordered by distance from a specified postcode or the customer’s current location.
- Compare tool displays selected businesses with their comparison facts side by side. Each fact is clearly labelled as verified, provided by the business, stated, or not stated.
- Editorial guides are linked into category and location pages to provide relevant advice at the point where customers are making decisions.
Because all pages draw from live data, keeping your listing up to date means it will appear correctly wherever it is featured.
Where your business appears across the site
As a business owner, your listing can show up in several places, depending on the details you provide and the categories and locations you select.
- Category pages: Your business will appear on every category page where you have selected a relevant service. For example, if you list "roof repairs" and "gutter cleaning", you appear on both the roofing and guttering category pages.
- Category-in-town pages: If your business is listed in a specific category and town, it will show on that combined page. If you serve multiple towns, you may appear in several category-in-town pages.
- Town pages: Your listing appears in the relevant category section within your town’s page. If you serve more than one category or town, your business appears under each applicable section.
- Region pages: Your business is not shown directly on region pages, but is accessible via the towns listed.
- Search results: Whenever a customer searches for your services or location, your business may show up if it matches the criteria.
- Business page: This is your main showcase, containing all the details you have provided or verified. Customers can view your profile, see your services, contact you, and request a quote.
- Compare tool: If a customer selects your business for comparison, your key facts are shown side by side with others.
Your business appears wherever your categories and locations match the page type. The more complete and accurate your profile, the more places you will show up.
What controls your listing’s visibility and facts
Several factors influence where and how your business appears on Annuvell Local. No business can pay for better organic placement or influence comparison facts.
- Categories and locations: The categories and towns you specify when editing your listing determine which pages you appear on. If you do not select a service or location, you will not show in those categories or towns.
- Profile completeness: The more sections you fill out—description, services, contact details, hours, photos—the more informative your listing is across the site. Annuvell Local provides a profile completeness panel to help you track what’s missing.
- Contact details: Phone numbers are marked as verified only if published by the business, and websites known to be unreachable are flagged. Accurate details build trust and help customers reach you.
- Verified badge: If you have completed the ownership check, your listing shows a Verified badge. This cannot be bought and tells customers the listing is managed by the real business.
- Comparison facts: The compare tool uses labels to show whether information is verified, owner-provided, stated, or not stated. Keeping your dashboard up to date means these facts reflect your current offering.
- Editorial guides: These cannot be influenced by payment. They are written to help customers and owners, and linked into relevant categories and towns where they add value.
You control your own listing’s content from your dashboard, and changes are reflected throughout the directory once approved.
How editorial guides link into categories and towns
Editorial guides are practical articles written to help consumers choose, compare, and question local businesses and to help owners improve their listings. There are several ways these guides connect with the main directory pages:
- Category pages: Up to three guides related to the category are linked near the top of the page. For instance, a guide about how category pages help customers might be included on several relevant pages—for example, see How category pages help customers discover you.
- Town pages: Up to three guides focused on the town itself are linked to help customers with local considerations, such as "Choosing a builder in Bristol" or "Questions to ask in Edinburgh".
- Home page: Always shows the three latest guides, giving both customers and owners easy access to new advice.
- Blog section: The /blog page collects all guides, which you can browse by topic or location.
Guides are curated to appear where they are most helpful, such as a plumbing guide on the "Plumbers in York" page, or an owner checklist guide on the homepage. This means customers often see expert advice just as they are choosing or comparing businesses.
A customer's path and an owner's checklist
For customers
A typical customer journey might look like this:
1. Land on the home page and either search for a service or browse categories.
2. Select a category (e.g., electricians) and see all businesses UK-wide, plus up to three helpful guides.
3. Narrow down by location using the locations directory or entering a postcode.
4. Arrive at the town page and see businesses grouped by service, with local guides.
5. Click into a business page to read more, check contact details, or request a quote.
6. Optionally, use the compare tool to review key facts side by side for two to four businesses.
Customers can use guides, category pages, and compare facts at each step to help them make a confident choice.
For business owners
To make sure your business is visible and accurate wherever it appears:
- Check your profile for missing or out-of-date information, especially services, locations, and contact details.
- Complete all sections of your profile, including photos and a clear description.
- Claim your listing and finish the ownership check to gain the Verified badge.
- Review how your listing appears on each category, town, and business page by following the customer path yourself.
- Read relevant guides for owners—such as how category pages work—to understand what customers see and what you can update.
Keeping your information up to date means customers see accurate, verified details no matter how they find you.
Next steps
Start by visiting the /categories directory and follow your business through to its own page, checking what appears at each stage. Use your dashboard to update any missing services, locations, or contact details. You can also read How category pages help customers discover you and browse more advice for owners and customers at the /blog. If your business is not showing where you expect, review your profile completeness panel and adjust your listing settings as needed.
