How to request quotes from local businesses
Where to find the Request Quote buttons, what information you need to provide, and how to manage replies from local businesses on Annuvell Local.
Requesting a quote is the main way to start a conversation with a local business about your job or enquiry. Whether you have one provider in mind or want to compare a few, knowing how Annuvell Local handles quote requests helps you get more useful replies and keep things organised.
Where to find the Request Quote options
You can start a quote request from several places on Annuvell Local, depending on how you are searching for businesses:
- On a business page: Each listing has a Request Quote button, usually near the contact details. This is for when you have found one business you want to contact directly.
- From a comparison: If you are comparing two to four businesses using the compare tool, you can send one request to all of them at once. Each business receives only its own copy, so your details are not shared between them.
- Category and town search: If you are not sure who to contact, you can send a quote request from a category-and-town page (like "plumbers in Norwich"). These requests are reviewed by an administrator and only proceed if there are at least three businesses for that category and town. This helps avoid sending your request where there may be too few options or no one to reply.
Wherever you see Request Quote, it leads to a form that collects the same details. You can search businesses by name, category or location to find the right starting point.
Why you need an account and a verified email
Annuvell Local asks you to sign in with a verified email before you can send a quote request. This does a few things:
- Reduces spam: By requiring a real, checked email address, it keeps automated or nuisance messages to a minimum. Each quote request must come from an actual person.
- Helps you track your requests: Having an account means you can see which businesses you contacted and refer back to the reference codes you receive.
- Protects your details: The system has anti-abuse measures, such as rate limits, duplicate-message detection and a daily budget per account. These help ensure that genuine customers get through, and abusive accounts can be blocked.
If you have not verified your email, the system will prompt you to do so before you can complete your request. This step only takes a moment and helps both you and the businesses you contact.
Filling out the quote request form: field by field
The quote request form is designed to give the business enough information to reply meaningfully, without requiring more than you are comfortable sharing:
- Name: Your name goes here. Businesses use this to address you in their reply.
- Message: This is the most important part. Describe the job or enquiry as clearly as you can. A short but specific message (for example, “Replace two fence panels, access through side gate, flexible on dates”) helps businesses decide whether they can help and what to include in their reply. If you are unsure what to say, see what to include in a quote request.
- Preferred contact method: Choose whether you want the business to reply by email or phone. If you choose phone, you will be asked for your number. Some businesses prefer phone for quick jobs, but always pick what you are comfortable with.
- Phone number: Only required if you pick phone as your preferred contact method. Double-check this so you do not miss replies.
- Privacy acknowledgement: You need to acknowledge that you understand how your details will be used. This is a standard part of most online forms.
Once you submit, your message goes directly to the business (or businesses) by email and to their dashboard. You receive a reference code and a note that a response is not guaranteed. This helps you keep track of your enquiry.
After you submit: delivery and what happens next
After you have filled out and sent your request:
- Your request is delivered: The business receives your message by email and in their dashboard leads page. If you have sent to more than one business (from a comparison), each receives only their own copy.
- You receive a reference: Annuvell Local gives you a reference code for each request. Keep this for your records in case you want to follow up or check which businesses you have contacted.
- No guaranteed response: Businesses are encouraged to reply, but there is no guarantee. Some might reply quickly, some may take longer, and some may not reply if they are fully booked or feel the job is not a match.
- Your privacy: Only the information you submit is shared with the businesses you contact.
The system’s anti-spam checks also mean your message may be held or rejected if it looks like a duplicate or violates rate limits. This helps keep the service working well for all users.
Realistic expectations and how to improve your chances of a reply
Not every quote request will get a response. Here’s how to make your request more likely to attract a useful reply:
- Be specific in your message: A clear, concise description saves the business time and shows you are serious. Vague messages or blank requests are less likely to be answered.
- Send to more than one business: If your job is not urgent, use the comparison option to send your request to two to four businesses. This increases your chances of getting replies you can compare.
- Check that the business covers your area and the service you want: If you are outside their usual area or asking about something not listed on their profile, mention this in your message.
- Choose your contact method carefully: If you prefer email but do not check it often, you might miss replies. Likewise, if you choose phone, make sure you are available to take calls.
- Avoid sending the exact same message again and again: The system may block duplicate requests, and businesses will not reply to repeated identical enquiries.
Remember that some businesses may be busy or not taking on new work. A polite, clear message gives you the best chance of a response.
Keeping track of replies and comparing offers
Once you have sent your requests, keep an eye on the contact method you selected. Replies will come directly to you, not through Annuvell Local.
- Use your reference codes: Each request has a reference code, which you can use to match replies to the business you contacted.
- Write down key details: When a business replies, note down the price, what is included, timescales, and any questions they ask. This helps you compare like for like.
- Compare side by side: If you have used the compare tool, you can refer back to the comparison facts shown for each business. These include which details are verified, provided by the business owner, or not independently checked. The compare tool is helpful for seeing differences in services, hours or coverage at a glance.
- Ask follow-up questions: If a quote is unclear or does not cover everything you mentioned, reply to the business and ask for more detail. Good communication early on can make the whole process smoother.
- Watch for missing replies: If you do not hear back after a reasonable time, you can try a different business or follow up. Remember, a lack of reply can happen for many reasons and does not reflect on you.
Next steps
Think through what you need, write a clear description, and decide whether you want to contact one business or several. Find a business, press Request Quote, and fill out the form with enough detail for a meaningful reply. You can learn more about what to include in your message from our guide, and use the compare tool if you want to contact more than one business at once.
